Excel → Anki

Excel to Anki, Worksheet and All

Upload an .xls or .xlsx workbook, pick the right worksheet, and map your columns — SheetToAnki reads the file completely in your browser.

Why Excel needs a converter, not just a copy-paste

Excel workbooks often contain more than one worksheet, merged cells, or formulas instead of plain values. Anki has no idea what to do with an .xlsx file directly. SheetToAnki opens the workbook in your browser using the SheetJS library, lets you choose exactly which worksheet holds your study data, and converts only that sheet into a clean, importable CSV.

Multi-sheet workbooks are handled automatically

If your file has several tabs — say, one per chapter or unit — SheetToAnki lists every worksheet by name and row count so you can pick the right one before mapping columns.

Step by step

  1. Drag your .xls or .xlsx file into the upload area.
  2. If the workbook has multiple worksheets, select the one you want to convert.
  3. Map the columns that hold your questions and answers to Front and Back.
  4. Apply cleanup options, then preview a few cards by flipping through them.
  5. Download the CSV and import it into Anki via File → Import.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does this work with both .xls and .xlsx?+
Yes, both older binary Excel files (.xls) and modern XML-based files (.xlsx) are supported.
What happens if my workbook has several worksheets?+
You'll see a dropdown listing every worksheet with its row count, and you can convert one worksheet at a time.
Are Excel formulas converted correctly?+
SheetToAnki reads the calculated values shown in each cell, so formula results are converted, not the formulas themselves.
Is there a file size limit?+
Files up to 25 MB are supported, which comfortably covers even large multi-sheet workbooks.
